Racket Restringing FAQs

Racket Restringing FAQs

Whether you’re a club player, beginner, or serious competitor, these are some of the most common questions we get asked at The Racket Shop about restringing tennis, squash, and badminton rackets.

How often should I restring my racket?

A good rule of thumb is to restring as many times per year as you play per week. For example, if you play twice a week, restring about twice a year. Competitive players may restring every few weeks for peak performance.

What tension should I choose?

Tension affects power and control. Lower tensions (50–54 lbs) offer more power and comfort, while higher tensions (55–60 lbs) offer more control and feel. We’re happy to advise the right tension based on your game style and string type.

What are the best strings for spin?

Shaped polyester strings like Yonex Poly Tour Spin or Solinco Confidential are great for players who want to generate more topspin or slice. We keep a wide selection of spin-friendly strings in stock.

Do you offer while-you-wait restringing?

Yes! We offer a while-you-wait racket restringing service from our Reading shop. Just book a slot online and we’ll get you back on court quickly—many customers visit us from Ascot, Windsor, and Bracknell for same-day service.

Can I use any string in any racket?

Absolutely. Strings are chosen based on the player, not just the racket. You can mix and match string types for power, spin, or control—even hybrids. Ask us for advice if you’re unsure.

How much does restringing cost?

Prices typically start at £25 for a standard restring. Premium strings like polyester or natural gut cost more. We always confirm pricing before we start. Contact us or visit the shop to browse your options.

Do you stock natural gut or hybrid strings?

We can order natural gut on request, but it’s more expensive (from £45). Hybrid setups—mixing polyester mains with softer crosses—can also be arranged. Let us know what you’re after when booking.

What strings do pro players use?

Many professionals use polyester strings like Luxilon Alu Power or Tecnifibre Razor Code. We also stock strings endorsed by players like Daniil Medvedev and Iga Swiatek. Ask us if you’d like to try what the pros use!

What’s the turnaround time for restringing?

If you book a while-you-wait slot, we’ll usually restring your racket in under 30 minutes. Drop-offs are typically ready within 1–2 days depending on workload.
